How to Use Colors to Combat the Winter Blues

Today is the third Monday of January, also known as “Blue Monday”.

It is considered to be the most gloomiest and depressing day of the year, apparently because it is post-Christmas fun, winter break is over and friends and family have left and the days are dark, gloomy and short and not to forget that most people have already fallen of their New Year’s resolution hence motivation level is low.

Whether Blue Monday is a myth or fact, we are not going to get into that debate, but winter months and Mondays in general can be hard for many people.

Seasonal depression also known as SAD creeps over and you might be spending your days feeling down and sluggish. The good news is that these are just emotions and by being mindful and intentional, you have the power to change the way you feel and behave.

In episode 12 of “The Healthy Home Design” podcast Kate Hamblet and I discuss the topic of Seasonal Affective Disorder - aka Winter Blues.

If you are someone who lives in the cold climate further away from the equator, wishes to hibernate and indulge on carbs and notices a change in your mood and energy levels, this episode is for you.

In this episode I share my personal story of struggling with seasonal depression for years, 8 years to be exact. Hormones and big life changes, such as having a baby, mixed with the dreary climate is the perfect recipe for anxiety, stress and depression.

I also share a variety of lifestyle changes that have helped me combat seasonal depression, including strategically using color in my home.

In the comments please share your best tip to fight the winter blues, so others can benefit from it.
